HumAhang for Rights
HumAhang for Rights is the first project of SFEA that has directly engaged Parliamentarians from the National Assembly of Pakistan. The project has two core components, (i) Meaningful Training and Capacity Enhancement of Parliamentarians, Policy organizations, and other institutes to improve parliamentary oversight on issues pertaining to violations of constitutional human rights, (ii)Effective Advocacy to initiate Policy Dialogue regarding sensitization of parliamentarians towards Human Rights violations.
The project has successfully conducted various activities involving Parliamentarians associated with the Young Parliamentarians Forum, Women Parliamentary Caucus and Standing Committees on Human Rights, Information and Broadcasting, Religious Affairs, and Interfaith Harmony and Law & Justice. These activities included public hearing/community interface meetings in provincial capitals to facilitate direct interaction between communities, and their elected representatives, immersive residential training workshops and consultative sessions with parliamentarians to understand the parliamentary role in preventing violations of human rights, and deliberations on findings of public hearings. 10+ members of national assembly along with functionaries of Parliaments and senate participated in these workshops.
In the first quarter of 2023, a three-day long “Post Legislative Scrutiny Analysis” workshop engaging National Assembly members and functionaries was also successfully organized. Beyond these core activities, the project maintains an active presence on social media, sharing informative content. A noteworthy and sustainable component of HumAhang for Rights is the development of a handbook on “How to Use Parliamentary Tools” for Parliamentarians.
