Tafheem

Project Tafheem (The Understanding) is SFEA’s one of the most impactful projects that brings students and teachers from diverse sects closer via a set of intelligently designed capacity enhancement and training workshops. With the aim of preventing religious fallacies, it promotes intra-faith harmony and improves collaboration between various religious sects for sustainable social cohesion.
To attain the objectives of expanding preventive outreach by increasing engagement and recognition of religious institutions in mainstream society, the project provides a unique opportunity to students of Madrassahs by engaging them in programs such as networking meetings, critical thinking workshops, inter madrassah exchange programs (IMEPs), social action projects (SAPs), Tafheem Salamati Fellowships, and peace dialogues.

Since October 2021 when Project Tafheem was formally launched, it has made a significant contribution to peacebuilding and promoting inclusivity in society by executing a number of trainings and exchange programs in the Madrassahs and promoting a positive and participatory image of religious seminaries on social media. Throughout the first phase of the project, Tafheem worked closely with the host madrassahs, namely Jamia Binoria Aalamia, a leading Deobandi Madrassah in Karachi, Jamia Naeemia, a leading Barelvi Madrassah in Lahore, and Jamiatu al Kauthar, a leading Shia Madrassah in Islamabad. The project has moved into its second phase, where we are noe working with 18 Madrassahs (3 in each Province) with both male and female students, with a geographical spread of 18 districts across all provinces of Pakistan.
