PACT for Tolerance
PACT (Peace Advocacy and Community Engagement through Transformation) against extremism was a policy-driven capacity-building and policy advocacy program that focused on the issue of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) at academic campuses. The project engaged a 6-member Core Group of Experts, people of the highest stature from institutions like the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) along with other known academicians who provided intellectual support for project strategy and documents like workshop curriculum as well as guidance in the development of the PACT Policy Document (PPD).
The project activities included 60-Community Mapping and Mobilization Meetings with VCs of universities in four provinces including Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, 18-Regional Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and 6 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with faculty members, administrative staff/student affairs departments, student executive bodies, teachers’ union members, district education officials, 4-Regional Policy Development Roundtables (PDRs) and national level conference with VCs. The collective output of all these activities led to the development of a comprehensive PACT Policy Document (PPD). As a result of SFEA’s continuous efforts and providing a platform to HEC and National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) have signed a MoU, which will be a groundbreaking step towards creating a peaceful environment in Universities.
